Join Unlocking the Secrets in Creating Comic Books' Howard Wong (Iron Man: Hong Kong Heroes) and special guest, artist Jason Lapidus (Group of 7) for this FREE three-part workshop where you will learn the overall basic skills to make your own comic! They will cover how to turn a story into a comic book script, a comic book script into a comic book page layout, and more!

Workshop 3 - Script to Layouts Part 2 of 2
Saturday, December 19, 4-5 PM
Host: Jason Lapidus and Howard Wong
A hands-on portion where participants apply Workshop 2's techniques to turn their script into a one-page comic book layout. A breakdown of the artist's process in creating layouts to ensure the visual aspects of your comic work with the story. This includes how to ensure space for word balloons, captions and sound effects, composition of your page and panels, to tips and tricks when faced with an impossible script.

THE COMIC BOOK WRITER
Howard Wong is an award-nominated writer and creative development specialist best known for writing Iron Man: Hong Kong Heroes for Marvel Comics. He has over two decades in corporate and creative industries experiences. His passion for speculative fiction and narrative-driven content has led him to work in animation, comic books, toys, mobile games, intellectual property development, story development, marketing, and branding. He has worked with Bandai Namco Asia Company Limited as a story developer on Kunio Okawara's (Gundam mech designer) Full Metal Ghost property, Marvel Comics as a writer on the first comic book based on a Disneyland Marvel attraction, Three zero (Hong Kong) Ltd. as a creative development specialist developing new toy properties and others. He is currently working on his first YA novel, an illustrated children's book, and an all-ages comic book miniseries. He is represented by The Rights Factory.

Jason Lapidus is a cartoonist, comics educator, and illustrator of the award-winning adventure comic series Group of 7. Building on twenty years of teaching in both the college classroom and unique cultural spaces like the Royal Ontario Museum, Jason leads creative and interactive workshops for schools and communities to share his experience and passion for the medium of comics.
*Materials Needed For All Workshops:
While any drawing tools can be used, using letter-sized printer paper (8.5"x11"), a standard graphite pencil, and a white gum (or any good) eraser, pencil crayons, crayons, or markers. If you prefer to draw on a tablet with a stylus, that's alright as well.
