Fan Expo Canada 2019 Recap

Image
What an amazing show! Got to see old friends and catch up with their shenanigans, as well as making new friendships which is one of the many reasons why I like the comic book community. Photos taken by Paul Hiller. Photos taken by Paul Hiller. Got to hang out with one of the best con neighbours I've had, Casey Parsons. He was busy painting covers and sketches folks as made incredibly bad dad jokes. Seeing old fans and meeting new ones is always a highlight of the show for me. So many passionate folks came by to talk to me about old and new stories I've written, which still boggles my mind. Thank you for the support! Sorry if you don't see yourself here. I tend to forget to grab a snap when I'm talking. Last, but not least I want to thank all the folks that make Fan Expo Canada what it is! Happy 25th to you too! My kid s marched me to this huma n crane game at the Adult Swim booth with hopes I'd toss my cooki

TCAF 2019 Recap

I didn't get a chance to take a lot of photos at this past TCAF, but I did see a whole lot of people I haven't seen in a while. I must have stood in a few spots for over an hour saying hi and catching up with folks. It's always fun to hear about what everyone is working on and what they have created. So glad I got to see so many of you and apologise for not seeing others. One of the new fun things I did this year was attending some of the Word Balloon Academy workshops. Picked up a few helpful things and met cool people! The signing for The Unhappy Little Pig was terrific! Not only because I got to meet new readers of The Unhappy Little Pig, but also an old friend from high school whom I haven't see for many, many moons! I also met a delightful young book reviewer, The panel I had with  Joey Weiser (Ghost Hog) was a lot of fun. We met for the first time moment before the panel started, so we got to really know each other by doing a panel of how our book came

Hong Kong International Young Readers Festival 2019 Recap

Image
It was an adventurous two weeks doing talks and workshops at 12 (local and international) schools across Hong Kong with students aged 5 to 17. Being able to share my passion for crafting stories, behind-the-scenes experiences working in different industries, writing techniques I've developed over the years with over 2000 students made it very memorable. Some fun memories I had with my time with the students from all the different schools were of some asking me fun geeky questions to very thought-provoking ones like the one about how one overcomes adversity, to those about armpit farts (yes, really). There were also a few future artists who shared some of their artwork with me that they did during my talks. There were many more memorable moments that involved Star Wars to a pop singer and Stan Lee I had a lot of fun doing two workshops at the public event at Lee Gardens 2, where I met many aspiring future authors! Not to mention amazing future illustr

SCMP Interview

Image
I was interviewed by South China Morning Post's Andrew Sun, where I was asked about some of the work I've done. Some things to note, I did not write the narrative for the Iron Man Experience attraction but did write the comic with the same name for Marvel Comics. A freelance creative consultant, Wong was there to discuss storylines for a new robot character. But before that, the agenda included updates on a crossover product line showing  Star Wars  characters as samurais. As the suits reviewed sales projections and production schedule, the Chinese-Canadian writer noticed something odd in the prototype toys. “The Stormtroopers had nipples on their armour,” Wong says. “So I asked ‘why do they have nipples?’ The executives paused, then also asked, ‘yeah, why are there nipples on Stormtroopers?’” Urgent emails flew off to Japan. Responsible adults evaluating management decisions suddenly degenerated into a round table of nerds debating whether Edo-period troops for D

The Unhappy Little Pig

Image
My first children's illustrated book, The Unhappy Little Pig launched at the Hong Kong International Young Readers Festival this past March! The Unhappy Little Pig is written by moi, illustrated by Adrian Alphona (Ms. Marvel) and published by the fine folks at the Hong Kong International Young Readers Festival. It is a story of a pig unhappy being a pig who goes on a whimsical search to find what makes him happy. Only 200 are printed with each one numbered. They also come with a snazzy certificate of authenticity! We had a signing at the Hong Kong International Young Readers Festival's public events at Lee Gardens 2 where I got to meet a lot of enthusiastic book lovers! The official launch for The Unhappy Little Pig was held at Kelly and Walsh at Pacific Place, where I got to meet more fantastic book lovers during a reading and signing event!
